meet amanda!
Amanda Luu, a first-generation Vietnamese American, founded Namesake Studio in 2023. Luu’s parents were refugees who fled Vietnam by boat after the war, and she was born and raised in Houston, Texas. In her 30s, she decided to “return” to Vietnam, a place her parents had only known 40 years prior.
In a bustling city of nearly 9 million people, Amanda struggled to feel at home. She missed her family and friends in the United States, and she found the comforts of home to be out of reach. As a self-proclaimed minimalist, introvert, and homebody, she found it challenging to commit to buying things for her small apartment. But she knew she needed a sanctuary to recharge.
Amanda committed to building a space to nurse her homesickness and help her feel grounded in a big city far from home. She filled her apartment with carefully curated objects that reminded her of her heritage and her loved ones. She also created a space for herself to relax and be creative.
Namesake Studio reflects Amanda’s journey to find a home in Vietnam. It is a space that is both personal and universal, a place where anyone can feel at peace.
